Adventures on the Moon

Akureyri Sunrise

Akureyri, Iceland, is a unique and welcoming destination for female solo travelers. Iceland is renowned for its safety, and Akureyri is no exception, making it a secure choice for solo female travelers. Breathtaking landscapes, including fjords, mountains, and waterfalls, surround Akureyri.

Be sure to explore the nearby Akureyri Botanical Garden for a tranquil experience and a cup of latte (one of the best I have ever had). Lattes are not flavored; the taste of the coffee is all you need; it is heavenly. Akureyri has retained a cozy small-town atmosphere with charming cafes, local shops, and friendly locals.

Embrace Iceland’s outdoor activities, such as hiking, horseback riding, and whale-watching tours, which are readily available in the area.

Aurora Borealis: Depending on the season, you can witness the mesmerizing Northern Lights dancing across the Icelandic sky. It was very cloudy on this trip, and I left Akureyri without a view of the lights. Soon, I will be in Isafjordur and then on to Reykjavik (wish me luck and clear skies).

Many Icelanders speak English, making communication easy for travelers. Discover Icelandic culture and history at the Akureyri Art Museum or the Akureyri Church. Akureyri’s tranquil and inclusive ambiance welcomes solo travelers, making it easy to connect with fellow adventurers.

In summary, Akureyri offers a blend of natural wonders, cultural experiences, and safety, making it an ideal destination for female solo travelers looking to explore Iceland’s northern beauty.

Iceland Should be Called Waterland

The Godafoss waterfall is beautiful and worth a trip. It isn’t quite as big as Niagra Falls, but the environment is entirely different. There is so much water in Iceland; it comes from the ground, the sky, the mountains, and the ice melt. It is a wonderfully unique land. The coastline waterfall was one of many viewable from my cabin balcony—a breathtaking world to wake up to.

Icelandic Ports of Glory

The port is walkable, but sightseeing will most likely require a guided tour. I am not a fan of tour buses, either when they pull up or when I am on one (however, if you are cruising and want to make the most of your visit, you can be limited). I was on the MSC Preziosa, which had a passenger max of 4,500, and we could port instead of anchoring in the bay.

Iceland is proud of its country. They have a history that is forged in Greek mythology (Stan Lee’s version anyway:) and Global Warming.
